ETERNABRITE® Premier 255-PA Aluminum Paste

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

ETERNABRITE Premier 255-PA is a coarse particle size, very brilliant, leafing aluminum pigment based on advanced lenticular flake geometry. It will produce very strong metallic effects in liquid flexographic and gravure ink systems. This grade is produced as a pigment paste carried in isopropyl alcohol but is not treated to inhibit the aluminum-water gassing reaction. ETERNABRITE Premier 255-PA is not recommended for use in aqueous inks unless a careful evaluation of its stability in the final ink formulation produces acceptable results.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

ETERNABRITE Premier pigments are leafing aluminum pigment pastes carried in isopropyl alcohol. These grades are based on lenticular flake geometry and offer enhanced leafing properties in solvent and waterborne flexographic and gravure inks. The lenticular flake geometry produces strong, highly brilliant and very clean metallic effects. Although ETERNABRITE Premier pigments can be used in aqueous inks, they are not treated to protect against the aluminum-water reaction and special care must be taken to evaluate the gassing stability of each grade in the final ink formulation. High or excessive shear during ink production can initiate the aluminum-water reaction. Care must be taken to avoid excessive or high shear during processing when used in ink formulations containing water.

INCORPORATION GUIDELINES

The paste should be pre-soaked in solvent at a paste:solvent ratio of between 1:1 to 3:1. Polar solvents should be avoided with leafing grades due to their adverse effect on leafing stability. When formulating aqueous inks, the pH of the system should be kept as close to neutral as possible. Pre-soaking generally takes from one to eight hours. Finer grades typically take longer than coarser grades. Use low shear, slow speed mixing to achieve a smooth consistency free of agglomerates. High shear dispersion techniques should be avoided, as they will distort the aluminum flakes.

SAFETY AND HANDLING

Aluminum pigment should be stored in the original shipping container and kept tightly sealed. Store containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated, and properly rated area. Avoid any conditions that will suspend or float the particles in the air, creating a dust cloud. Avoid all possible sources of ignition. For additional information, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product, available from Silberline upon request. An SDS is supplied with all samples of this grade.
